How to Detect If Someone Is Following You — And What to Do About It

You don’t have to be a high-profile target to be followed. Stalking, harassment, and criminal surveillance happen to ordinary people every day.

Signs you may be under surveillance:

  • The same person or vehicle appearing multiple times in different locations.

  • Someone lingering near you without a clear purpose.

  • A vehicle matching your lane changes and turns more than once.

  • The same social media account viewing or interacting with all your posts quickly after they go up.

If you suspect you’re being followed:

  1. Stay in public areas with other people.

  2. Don’t confront the person — it escalates risk.

  3. Change direction or routes to see if they adapt.

  4. Enter a safe location (store, police station, etc.) and call for help.

  5. Document details discreetly — license plates, descriptions, times.

Awareness buys you time — and time gives you options.
